Kashmiri tweed hand-loomed in Anantnag at 480 GSM, half-canvassed rather than fused, cut soft-shouldered with patch pockets and four working buttons on each cuff. The fleck is dyed in the fleece, so the chinar rust and walnut live inside the yarn rather than on top of it.
Only 14 left in this run — the Anantnag loom returns about three metres a day

The cloth comes off pit-treadle hand looms in Anantnag at 480 GSM, a 2/2 twill in pure wool with the fleck dyed into the fleece before spinning. From across a room it reads as one brown; held to a window you can count four or five shades in it. The jacket is then cut and stitched in our own Srinagar workroom.
100% wool at 480 GSM, half-canvassed front with a hand pad-stitched horsehair chest piece, unstructured shoulder, half lining in cupro, buffalo horn buttons, two 23 cm side vents.
Brush it down after wearing and hang it on a wide hanger overnight. Dry clean once at the end of the season and no more often — solvent strips the lanolin that lets the cloth shed water.
Free insured courier, dispatched in 2–3 working days from Srinagar. 7-day return window on an unworn jacket with the tags attached.
Every fact a buyer asks us before ordering a tweed jacket, in one place. This is a half-canvassed jacket in 480 GSM hand-loomed Kashmiri tweed, cut in Srinagar, sold at ₹8,490 against an MRP of ₹10,500.
The cloth comes off pit-treadle hand looms in Anantnag, where a weaver lays down about three metres in a working day. It is 100% wool in a 2/2 twill at 480 GSM, and the fleck is not a printed effect or a slub added at the end: the fibre is dyed loose in chinar rust and walnut, then blended and spun, so the colour lives inside the yarn. From across a room it reads as one brown. Held to a window you can count four or five shades in it.
The cloth is milled and decatised at the finisher before anything is cut, which is why it will not move on you later. The jacket is then made up in our own Srinagar workroom, and the front is half-canvassed — a horsehair chest piece pad-stitched to the cloth by hand, with no fusible interlining anywhere in the garment. That is the reason the lapel rolls instead of bubbling after two winters of Srinagar damp, and it is the part of a jacket a customer never sees and always feels.
Shoulders are unstructured, no pad, with a 5 mm sleevehead roll so the sleeve sits rather than stands. Ten centimetres of chest ease over your measurement, two patch pockets and a patch chest pocket, half lining in cupro across the back with the sleeves lined through, and four working horn buttons on each cuff.
Expect the twill to bloom in the first month as the weave fills in, and to fuzz a little at the cuff and pocket mouths by the second winter. There is enough lanolin left in the finish to shed ten minutes of drizzle, which is not the same thing as a rain jacket. In the valley it covers October to the end of March; in Delhi and the plains it is a November to February jacket.

I have bought fused jackets at this price before and the lapel goes flat and bubbly by the second winter. This one rolls. The shoulder sits where my shoulder is instead of an inch past it, and the cloth is heavier in the hand than the photographs suggest.
Ordered it for a December wedding and then wore it through January. At 480 GSM it is more jacket than Bengaluru needs, which is my mistake and not theirs. The fleck reads as plain brown at a distance and as four colours up close, exactly as described.
Answered by the shop in Srinagar, usually within one working day. Ask anything — sizing, alterations, how it layers, how warm it really is.
Will it close over a lambswool cardigan?
Yes. The block carries about 10 cm of chest ease for exactly that, and the Gurez cardigan is the knit we cut it against. Over a heavy hand-knit, take one size up.
The other layers made up at the same bench in Srinagar, from a hand-knit Gurez cardigan to an undyed pattu overcoat.

Take the L. The block is cut for a knit underneath, and the L at 42 inches leaves that room. An M at 40 will close, but it will pull across the back when you reach forward.
With a lambswool knit under it, yes, down to about 2 °C — that covers most of October to March. In January snow at minus four, or standing outdoors for any length of time, you still want the undyed pattu overcoat over it.
The colour and the fleck will match; the exact placement of slubs will not, because the cloth is not machine-uniform. We cut around real faults — holes, dropped picks, dye marks — but a slight variation in the twill line is inherent to a hand loom and is not a defect.
A horsehair chest piece is pad-stitched to the cloth by hand from the shoulder to below the chest, instead of a fusible sheet being glued across the whole front. It takes an hour of someone's day, and it is the difference between a lapel that rolls for fifteen winters and one that bubbles after two.
The cloth is milled and decatised before cutting, so it will not move on you. We leave the sleeve 1.5 cm long and 2 cm of let-out in the side seams, and the Srinagar shop will take it in or let the sleeve down at no charge. Once altered the jacket can no longer be returned.
Dispatch takes 2 to 3 working days, then 2–3 days to an Indian metro, 3–5 days elsewhere in India and 7–12 days internationally. Every jacket ships free and insured in a cotton bag inside a rigid box. Add a hand-written card free at checkout.
Measured on the finished jacket, laid flat and doubled, so allow 1 cm either way.
| Size | Finished chest | Back length | Cut for |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 38 in / 97 cm | 71 cm | A 36-inch chest with a shirt only — sold out in this run |
| M | 40 in / 102 cm | 73 cm | A 38-inch chest, room for a fine knit |
| L | 42 in / 107 cm | 75 cm | A 40- or 41-inch chest, room for a lambswool cardigan |
| XL | 44 in / 112 cm | 77 cm | A 42-inch chest, or a 41 with a heavy hand-knit |
| XXL | 46 in / 117 cm | 79 cm | A 44-inch chest — sold out in this run |
Sizes are labelled by finished chest and the block carries 10 cm of ease over your own measurement. If you fall between two sizes, take the larger one — this is cut to close over a knit, not over a shirt alone. Every size costs the same ₹8,490 on this page, and the Srinagar shop takes the sleeve or the waist in at no charge.
Still unsure? Send us your chest measurement and what you plan to wear under it at the Srinagar shop and we will pick for you.
